Boulder Rural is always on the lookout for the highest quality responders we can attract, and we have had another very successful year! Boulder Rural firmly believes that we develop some of the best responders in the front range due to a highly competitive and selective process at the entry level. We attract many interested candidates from outside of our community and are successful in helping to place them place in career positions.

At Boulder Rural, there is no perceivable distinction between our volunteer and paid staff. Every member is held to the same minimum training standard, and everyone realizes the value of being a contributing part of the team.

We conduct our volunteer hiring process twice a year. The goal is to maintain a roster of 30 active volunteers. Some of Boulder Rural’s volunteers serve in positions above the firefighter/EMT level such as engineer or lieutenant. We offer a pension or a Length of Service Awards Program as well as a Volunteer Incentive Plan to reward volunteers for their service, either standard or beyond the minimum. We are truly a combination department with a strong team; won’t you join?
